Efren T. Romero

He loved his family more than anything else. His passion to succeed was fueled by his burning desire to give his family the best things in life. He loved to be around his relatives and friends. He loved life and lived it with honor, humility and dignity worth emulating. With these admirable qualities it was nearly impossible not to be drawn to the aura of his light. After all, to know Efren was to be his friend...

Loving husband and father, Efren Romero, 51, a Philippines-based CPA/Lawyer, originally from Angeles City, Pampanga, of Hayward, California, was surrounded by family and friends when he died on Saturday, December 12. He is survived by his wife Janeth, and their three children – Laurene, Justin and Jettefren.
Efren was a devoted family man, affable, straightforward and downright a man of principles.  He is one of the chartered members of IBPCAL Chapter since its inception in 1997.  He served as a loyal member and for several terms as Auditor of the Chapter.  He was a member of an exclusive law UST Fraternity known as the Gamma Delta Epsilon Fraternity.
“Fight,” was the word Efren firmly used when diagnosed with esophageal cancer in August. Fight he did. He chose optimism and laughter as his weapons. In his last days, when the doctor visited his hospital room filled with loved ones, he would introduce himself as “the patient.”
Even as his physical condition deteriorated, Efren grilled his physician for ways to beat the disease. He wanted to keep fighting even as he laboriously gasped for air. His inner light shone brighter than ever, and continues to inspire family and friends.
The 5th of 7 children, Efren was born on June 12, 1958 in Dau, Pampanga, Philippines.  He completed his Accounting degree at Holy Angel University and passed his CPA with honors.  He studied law at the University of Santo Thomas in Manila and later passed the bar.  A California resident since 1993, he was the Chief Financial Officer of San Francisco’s Jewish Community High School of the Bay.
